When I was growing up with my mother, I wanted to be something great. That chance happened to come when I saw these 3 knights on their horses and I knew I was going to join this King Arthur and his knights. I was so excited I told my mother of the news, although she seemed a little unsettled by the idea, she gave me some advice to follow as I traveled out on my own. I was so grateful because she taught me about praying and how to act around women. She has also given me these fine garments to wear on my journey.
And so I set out my journey to the castle. On my way I stopped at a Church to pray just like my mother told me to do. I also met a fair lady there, and as advised, I gave her a kiss for good luck and took her ring while I ate the food that was present. I then left feeling satisfied by my good deeds.
Shortly thereafter I arrived at a great castle, which I assumed could have only been King Arthur’s. Upon entering, I noticed a knight in Red (which I really liked and wanted the same armor for when I become and knight) and he told me that he took the cup he was holding from the king and if I wanted his armor to tell the king. So I entered, and as my mother told me I demanded to be made a knight by the king and demanded the armor that the red knight he passed was wearing. Another knight of the court advised me that if I wanted the armor that I should take it, and after hearing what he did to the damsel of the court I set out on my way. On my way out I greeted the lady and she laughed at me… not really sure why but I dismissed it anyway because I was busy at the time. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed the knight slap the lady and kick the jester, which infuriated me and I will deal with him later for such atrocity.
I soon met up with the Red Knight who seemed to be waiting for one of the king’s knights so I confronted him. I demanded his armor but he laughed at me and as I approached he hit me with the end of this spear. I took up my spear in response and threw with such force and accuracy that it had went through his visor and killed him. I tried to take his armor off but it wouldn’t budge. No matter how hard I pulled it wouldn’t come off. I heard someone laughing in the bushes and when I turned around I saw one of the knights from the court who offered to help me claim my armor. He was very kind except he tried to switch my fine garments for the thin garments the knight was wearing. I gave him the cup to bring back to the king and told him to tell the knight that I will punish him for what he did to the lady and the man and he will not return to the court until he leaves.
I left the small battle with my new armor which I wanted to show my mother but I didn’t know how to get home from where I was. I continued in the direction I was heading and met Lord Gornemant of Gohort. He let me rest at his fort and taught me of the way of “manners” and he also taught me how to use my new armor and weapons. He also told me not to ask too many questions because people would see me as a fool (who would want to look like an idiot).
After learning all I could I left the Lord and traveled on… I the most beautiful woman and she explained to me her problems. Lady Blancheflor told me what Clamadeu was doing and I promised to protect her and gain back her land. Over the next several days I overthrew the army and sent them to King Arthur, and informing the night that he will avenge the lady. I stayed with Lady Blancheflor for a while and promised to bring my mother to meet her when I find her if she is still alive.
I continued on and met an old fisher who seemed to have a limp. I soon found out that this old man was actually a lord of a castle. He let me stay and as we were walking a man walked by holding a strange lance that seemed to be bleeding from the tip. Right behind him was a maiden carry a cup that had a bright glow to it. This really intrigued me because it was the most extraordinary item but the teachings of the Lord came into my head of not asking too many questions so I held my tongue. Confused and amazed I asked the servant of the lord about the magical cup and the spear at the feast. After, we went to bed. I awoke to find that the castle seemed to by deserted. I dressed rather quickly and left the castle to search for signs of life. As soon as I exited, the gates rose and no matter how much I shouted there were no answer.
With a sigh, I took off with the sword the old man had given me. Soon I was interrupted by a weeping maiden whose husband had been killed by the “Haughty Knight.” She noticed the sword I had received and told me that it had belonged to the Fisher King, the owner of the bleeding lance and the grail. She was so taken aback when I told her that I didn’t ask questions about these magical items and what I could have done with these items that I felt like a fool for not asking.(I felt like I was the only one who could ever had made that mistake and I was hopeless for doing so.) While feeling so horrible I found out that this maiden was actually my cousin and that she had received word that my mother had died from the grief of my departure. (Man I don’t think this day could have gotten any worse.) In a chance to right my wrongs, I promised to avenge my cousin and find this knight. In my search, I found the lady that I had met earlier at the church and she told me that her husband was the Haughty Knight and that I was in danger. I disregarded her warning and found her husband. I battled with him and defeated him. I told him that I was the knight who visited and that I did no harm to his wife and sent him to King Arthur to tell the knight that he was going to avenge the lady.
The next morning I saw a falcon attack a goose, this reminded me of the beautiful lady. I missed her so and was stunned by her beauty. A knight came up to me, but I ignored him. He tried to attack me but I de-horsed him. Another knight came up to me and attacked. I de-horsed him as well with much force, causing him injury and pain. Another knight approached me (I was feeling a little agitated at the time), and he asked me politely and I responded. He told me that the man I had just injured was Sir Kay, the man who insulted the lady in the Court and that King Arthur wanted to officially meet me. I had agreed.
We went back to the castle where I was made a knight (I was confused because I thought I was a knight of the round table when I got the man’s armor). An old hag entered the court and told them how I was in the presence of the grail and I didn’t ask any questions (I felt so ashamed). She also said that there was a woman who was trapped in Proud Castle, and the knight who saved her would receive a magical sword. Many of the knights wanted to go but my good friend Gawain couldn’t go because he was accused of killing a lord with a claim made.
FIVE YEARS LATER
… I have spent the last five years searching for the grail… I have been losing faith in my search… will I ever find the grail and gain what I have lost?
There is a man in the distance, maybe I will go meet with him, eat a meal or gain some knowledge. This man is a hermit and he tells me of my undoings (like I didn’t know). He also told me that he was my uncle on my mother’s side. He also told me that his brother was the Fisher King. He told me that I needed to repent for my sins and to seek god once more.
I spend my days trying to find god and to renew my faith, I’m sure I will continue on my journeys for the grail soon enough…

Oh Perceval, I too have been searching years for the mystery of the Grail. I have had similar instances of meeting with knights and different women on my adventures so I can understand how burdensome this tribulations can be. I am pleased to hear the King Arthur has been kind to you. He is my dearest kin and I serve him with all my heart. I am sorry to hear of the passing of your mother, for I too was taken away from my mother at a very young age. You and I seem to have very much in common for I would never allow a knight or jester for that matter hurt a young damsel. I am glad to hear that you stood up for the young maiden. I have been searching for the Grail for many years now and have become tired. I hope the mystery of the Grail will soon be uncovered and we can all rest asure that all our journeys were worthwhile in quest for the Grail... good luck to you.
